FAQ
Who will photograph my wedding?
Hi! That would be me (Nikki) and my husband, Chip.
How long have you been doing this?
We have been photographing weddings together for nine years. You can find out how we got started by clicking "Meet Us" on the main menu.
What kind of equipment do you use?
We work with a variety of Canon bodies and lenses. We also bring our own lighting for when it’s needed (at receptions, for example, or for dimly-lit spaces and nighttime images).
If you’re not available on my date, do you offer associate photographers?
We do! We are proud to offer associate photographers whose style matches ours. All of the images are edited by us. If one of our associate photographers is available on your date, the investment is $1,000 off any of our collections.
What happens if you have an emergency the day of my wedding and cannot make it?
In nine years of photographing weddings, we haven’t missed any. So, while we hope that never happens, we belong to a strong network of photographers in the same skillset. We’re there to cover for one another, should the need ever arise.
How many hours of coverage is included?
Every wedding collection includes full-day, 10 hours of coverage, which we find is sufficient for most weddings from prep through cake cutting. However, if your day needs additional coverage, you can add time at $525.00 per hour (with a one-hour minimum).
What if I don’t need full-day, 10-hour coverage?
No problem! For elopements or weddings that are shorter, we offer an hourly coverage option. The pricing is $525.00 per hour (with a two-hour minimum). This includes all of the high-res, edited images in a downloadable, password-protected gallery and full print rights.
If I don’t need an engagement session, can you deduct it from a collection?
We include engagement sessions with all of our collections because they are a great way for you to get to know us, for us to get to know you, and, most of all, for you to experience what it’s like in front of the camera (which angles you like, or don’t like, and how to pose naturally). All of which make you more relaxed on your wedding day. Plus, it’s a fun experience! However, if you wish to remove it from a collection, we would deduct $250.00 from the collection total.
I’ve heard some people say I need to do a first look. What is that?
A “first look” is a moment between the couple, where they see one another for the first time in private (except for having us there, and a video team, if there is one). And there’s a reason so many people talk about doing them. There is something so raw, and pure about seeing one another with no one else around and being able to say the first thing on your mind. Some of our favorite images have come from first looks! Another bonus is you also get more images, and you spend more of your day together.
How do I know if a first look is something I should do?
If your ceremony and reception are at the same location (back to back), you would need to do a first look since cocktail hour isn't enough time for your couple’s photos, bridal party photos and family portraits. We want our couples (and their family and friends!) to have fun and enjoy their cocktail hour. We also utilize cocktail hour to set up our reception lighting and photograph all of your room details before guests enter the space.
Is there a reason why I wouldn't need to do a first look?
If you have a gap of 2.5-3 hours in between your ceremony and reception (like with a church ceremony) then you don't need to do a first look. If you have a church ceremony we can help you determine what time works best to start and end (we factor in your receiving line/exit, family portraits, the sunset time and the distance between your church and venue). However, we find that many church ceremony couples still choose to do a first look, as they like to see one another in private (without a million eyes on them) and enjoy some alone time together.
Did we do a first look for our own wedding?
Yes! I was a bride who was reluctant to do a first look, but our schedule called for it. It ended up being my favorite part of the day other than actually saying, "I do." It was like time stood still! Being able to hear the first thing on Chip's mind (which, for the record was, “Holy s*it, you look stunning!") and have him throw his arms around me with both of us crying, was priceless. We didn't have to hold anything in, or hold anything back, and we spent so much more time together. It was wonderful!
What’s your photo process like? Do you backup your images?
We document your day and back up on-site. Then, when we arrive home, the first thing we do is back up your images again. Here’s where we are a little obsessive… We have five, yes five, different back up locations (on-site AND off-site). After your images are backed up, we look at each and every image, culling out any blinks, misfires and test shots. The remaining images are processed and edited by hand, one-by-one.
How many images do I receive?
We have no limit on the number of images we deliver, however it tends to run around 800-1,100 for a 10-hour day. You’ll receive them in a password-protected downloadable gallery. You also receive full printing rights.
How important is photoshop in your final images?
We shoot in RAW (which is equivalent to a digital negative version of film) and process each and every image in Lightroom (we don't outsource - all of our work is done here in-house by us). We only use Photoshop for a select few photos per session or wedding (to remove certain facial blemishes or clone out an exit sign or something obtrusive in the photo that we missed while shooting—although we try to catch that all beforehand). We don't add in fake backgrounds or manipulate the images. We aim to get it right in camera.
How long does it take to receive my images?
We try to post a preview image, or a few images, within a few days, and a larger set of previews within several weeks. Your entire gallery is ready in 8-12 weeks at most (usually before!). This was delayed during COVID when we dealt with a tremendous backlog due to rescheduled events.
How do I know when you arrive or when you leave? Timelines are so confusing!
Don’t worry! We’ve got this. We create custom timelines for every couple so all you have to do is show up, relax and enjoy your day! We also send a questionnaire out 30 days before your wedding day to confirm all the details.
Can I give you a shot list and do you do table shots?
On the questionnaire we send, there’s a space for you to write your top-five must-have images. Any more than that, and we’ll be staring at a list instead of capturing organic, natural moments that are unique to your wedding day. As for table shots, most folks are on the dance floor (or at the bar!). If they are at their table, they are typically eating. We grab a few here and there but capturing them enjoying the evening is what we are all about!
Are you insured?
Yes! We are fully insured and happy to send a copy of our certificate to your venue if required.
If you’ve never shot at my venue before, is that okay?
Of course! We have been commissioned to photograph weddings around the country (and out of the country at venues we've never heard of, let alone seen before). The light and weather changes so frequently, so what might be a great photo spot at your venue today, may be not-so-great tomorrow. We are used to thinking on our feet and adapting to any scenario to find the best light and locations.
What do you do when you’re not photographing weddings?
When we aren’t working, we’re probably eating (Italian! Chinese! Mexican! Give us ALL the food), drinking ridiculous amounts of coffee, and hangin' with our rescue dogs, Gemma & Luna. They own us and they know it. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
How does your style differ from that of your husband?
Chip and I have slightly different styles, although our styles overlap at times. I tend to shoot more modern, romantic images. I absolutely love details and those candid blink-and-you’ll-miss-them moments. Chip thinks out-of-the-box and is able to “see” shots in locations that I might pass up. Sometimes I’ll see him making an image and think, “What in the world is he doing?” Then I see the final result and am blown away by his creativity! When it comes to receptions, we both shoot in a backlit style (which means we typically bring in Off Camera Flash to help light up the room, and stay true to the ambient light). We strive to document the energy, movement and fun of the celebration.
Do you offer a discount for police/fire/military?
We do! Chip is a former police officer and we both come from heavy military families, so extending a discount for their service is something we are happy to do! Just mention this when you contact us.
Are you available for destination weddings?
Yes! We have experience photographing around the country and out of the country and would love to be considered for your destination wedding.
Do you offer albums?
We do! We are proud to offer heirloom albums. They are available in three different sizes (12x12, 10x10 and 8x8) with a variety of cover options (leather, linen, wood and acrylic). All cover types are included at no extra charge. Our albums are guaranteed for 100 years of regular use (200 years in dark storage) and come with thick, fingerprint-proof pages.
Can I purchase an album after my wedding?
You may add an album on at any time, however it is more cost-effective as part of one of our collections.
How does the album process work?
The album process is simple! After your images are delivered, you simply go into your online gallery and click the "heart" icon on your 60 favorites. It will ask for your email address and save it as a favorites list. Once you're finished, just let us know. From there, we design the album and it gets emailed to you as a "virtual album" to flip through and check the design. Albums are 30 pages/15 spreads. You're allowed 3 rounds of changes, after that there is a design fee.
I love you, I want to book! What is your payment schedule like?
Yay! Thank you for choosing us! Our payment schedule is easy peasy with three payments. A $750.00 non-refundable retainer is due upon booking and signing the contract, then 50% of the balance is due 6 months before the wedding date, and the remaining balance is due 30 days before the wedding date. Everything is done online (you can select credit, debit or "pay with check" as options).
Do you charge a travel fee?
Weddings that take place out of state, or more than one hour from Manahawkin, NJ, may incur a travel fee.
